Certification, Incidental Teaching & Substitute Teaching

• The district will ensure that all teachers hold valid appropriate certificates for their teaching assignments except where otherwise allowable under the Commissioner’s regulations (e.g., incidental teaching) or Education Law. 
• Uncertified teacher substitutes will be limited to 40 days unless there is a substitute shortage.  In those instances, the district will search for certified subs.  If none are available, the sub will then be allowed up to an additional 50 days. The district can add additional days if needed based on SED guidance.
