Attendance & Chronic Absenteeism

  • Utilizing Schooltool, attendance will be taken daily whether in person or remote.  
  • Student attendance will be monitored by all stakeholders. 
  • Students that fall below attendance thresholds for chronic absenteeism; parents will be contacted utilizing letters, phone calls, and home visits based on not meeting those thresholds.  Students falling below determined thresholds for chronic absenteeism, will be given a designated staff member as a mentor to work with the students and the family.
  • Students who continue to not attend school after repeated school interventions will be referred to outside agencies.
  • Student attendance will be reported in SIRS.
  • Staff daily attendance will be recorded through the business office. 
  • The district will ask for updated emergency contacts - it is recommended that sick children not be picked up by people who are at high risk of contracting COVID-19.
 

Remote Learning Model

 

Appleby
 
  • Student attendance will be taken daily. Full remote attendance expectations (daily record is state requirement):

 

  • UPK -Grade 6: 

 

  • UPK-Grade 6 homeroom teachers will be responsible for taking class attendance through Google Classroom.  Attendance check must be posted in Google Classroom by 8:00am on school days.  
  • Students must respond to the attendance check by 3:00pm every school day or they will be considered absent from school.
  • On days with Zoom class meetings, attendance will be taken at the meeting and serve as the record for the class that day.
  • Teachers will call students who do not have access to Google Classroom to record daily attendance.
  • Daily attendance from Google Classroom, Zoom classroom meetings, and/or phone calls will then be recorded in Schooltools.  
 
Junior/Senior High School
 
  • Student attendance must be recorded daily by teachers in SchoolTools after the 3:00pm student check in deadline.  
  • Full remote attendance expectations (daily record is state requirement):

 

  • Teachers post a question in each class period’s Google Classroom for each day.  The record of responding to these questions will serve as student attendance. This question can be content related.
  • When learning from home, every student must log into all of their course’s Google Classrooms and answer the posed daily question to serve as their attendance record.  
  • The day the attendance check is posted is the day it counts for attendance.  Attendance must be conducted daily. 
  • Students must respond to those hybrid attendance check in questions by 3:00pm every school day or they will be considered absent from school.
  • On days with Zoom class meetings, attendance will be taken at the meeting and serve as the record for the class that day.
  • Teachers will call students who do not have access to Google Classroom to record daily attendance.  Daily attendance from Google Classroom check in question, Zoom classroom meeting, and/or any phone calls will  be recorded in Schooltools.   
  • For grades 7-12, attendance will be taken every period. 
  • For students who do not meet attendance thresholds, letters will be mailed home and families will be contacted regarding chronic absenteeism.
 

Hybrid Model

 

UPK-5th

 

  • Attendance will be taken by home room teacher
  • Students who are learning remotely will take attendance through Google Classroom on a daily basis.
 
Grade 6-12 Attendance Procedures:  

 

  • When students are in person teachers will take period attendance in Schooltools.  
  • Student attendance on remote days:

 

  • Teacher posts a question in each class period’s Google Classroom for each day the students are learning from home.  The record of responding to these questions will serve as student attendance. This question can be content related.
  • When learning from home, every student must log into all of their course’s Google Classrooms and answer the posed daily question to serve as their attendance record.  
  • Students must respond to those hybrid attendance check in questions by 3:00pm on their hybrid learning days, or they will be considered absent from school
  • Teachers will call students who do not have access to Google Classroom to record daily attendance.  Daily attendance from Google Classroom check in question, Zoom classroom meeting, and/or any phone calls will  be recorded in Schooltools.   
  • For grade 6, the students’ homeroom teacher will post the attendance question and record responses in SchoolTool. 
  • For grades 7-12, attendance will be taken every period. Teachers will record responses in SchoolTool.
 

Full In-Person with Heightened Health and Safety Protocols

 

  • Typical in person attendance practices will apply (SchoolTool recorded each period by teacher).
  • Students who are learning remotely will take attendance through Google Classroom on a daily basis (ES) or by period (grades 7-12).
