Bilingual Education & World Languages

  • The ENL teacher communicates with the classroom teacher in regards to students’ needs and services. 
  • The ENL teacher will translate communication materials to families preferred language and mode of communication.
  • Teachers’ instruction and interventions are documented in teachers’ planbook.
  • Progress monitoring tools are used to determine ELLs English language proficiency (ELP).  The progress monitoring tools the district uses for ELLs and Former ELLs include all four communication modalities: speaking, listening, reading, and writing.  Progress monitoring data is used to determine ELLs instructional needs, services, and skill level.
 

Remote Learning

 

  • ENL services will be delivered by the ENL teacher and general education teacher.  Services provided via hard copy assignments, through phone calls, and electronically (Google Classroom, email, video, and online conferencing).  
  • ELLs in need of internet services will be provided a hotspot.  
 

Hybrid Mode

 

  • ELLs in grades UPK-5 will report to school Monday-Friday. 
  • September 9, 2020-February 12, 2021, ELLs in grade 6-8 will report to school Monday and Wednesday with remote learning taking place on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.  ELLs will be given the option to have in-person instruction on Tuesday and Thursday with remote learning only taking place on Friday.  
  • Starting the week of February 22, 2021, ELLs in grade 6 will report to school Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday with remote learning taking place on Thursday and Friday.  ELLs will be given the option to have in-person instruction on Thursday with remote learning only taking place on Friday.
  • Starting the week of February 22, 2021, ELLs in grade 7 will report to school Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday with remote learning taking place on Tuesday and Friday.  ELLs will be given the option to have in-person instruction on Tuesday with remote learning only taking place on Friday.
  • Starting the week of February 22, 2021, ELLs in grade 8 will report to school Monday, Wednesday, and Friday with remote learning taking place on Tuesday and Thursday.  ELLs will be given the option to have in-person instruction on Tuesday and Thursday. 
  • Starting the week of January 4, 2021, ELLs in grades 9-12 will report to school Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday with remote learning taking place on Monday and Wednesday.  ELLs will be given the option to have in-person instruction on Monday and Wednesday.  
  • ENL services will be delivered by the ENL teacher and general education teacher.  Units of Study will be provided based on ELLs most recently measured English language proficiency level during in-person instruction
  • On remote learning days services provided via hard copy assignments, through phone calls, and electronically (Google Classroom, email, video, and online conferencing).  
  • The ELL identification process will take place within 30 school days of the start of the school year for all students who enrolled during COVID-19 school closures in 2019-20, as well as all students who enroll during summer of 2020 and during the first 20 school days of the 2020-21 school year. After the 20 day flexibility period, identification of ELLs will resume for all students within required 10 school days of initial enrollment.
 

Full In-Person with Heightened Health and Safety Protocols

 

  • ELLs will report to school Monday-Friday; unless the student has chosen fully remote instruction.  
  • ENL services will be delivered by the ENL teacher and general education teacher.  Units of Study will be provided based on ELLs most recently measured English language proficiency level during in-person instruction and fully remote instruction. 
  • The ELL identification process will take place within 30 school days of the start of the school year for all students who enrolled during COVID-19 school closures in 2019-20, as well as all students who enroll during summer of 2020 and during the first 20 school days of the 2020-21 school year. After the 20 day flexibility period, identification of ELLs will resume for all students within required 10 school days of initial enrollment.
