Child Nutrition

  • Breakfast and lunch will be provided to any student in the district that requests meals free of charge under the Marathon Community Eligibility program.
  • All health and safety guidelines and compliance with Child Nutrition Program requirements will be met.
  • The food service director will be involved in the planning for requirements to provide all enrolled students with access to school meals each school day during remote learning.  Site supervisor will have weekly check-in meetings with staff to make adjustments to the meal service plan.  All applicable health and safety guidelines will be followed.
  • Students will wash their hands or use provided hand sanitizer prior to food consumption.  Students will be taught how to wash hands via CDC guidance. 
  • Signage, hand sanitizers stationed at cafeteria entrance, staff supervision to discourage food sharing.
  • Lunch tables will be cleaned by staff between student groups to avoid transmission of COVID-19.
  • Families will be alerted to meal availability through letters mailed to home, the K12 Alert messaging system, district website, and through social media. Communication will occur in the languages spoken by the family.
  • In order to ensure social distancing, students will sit 6 ft apart from one another during meal consumption.

Full Remote

 

  • Meals will be delivered to students via bus delivery or parent pick up and will include breakfast and lunch for Monday-Friday.
  • Families will be alerted to meal availability through letters mailed to home, the K12 Alert messaging system, district website, and through social media. Families can opt in or out of food deliveries at any time.  Families will need to contact the HS office to be added to the meal delivery list.
  • Communication will occur in the languages spoken by the family.
  • Movement within the cafeterias - non-cafeteria staff excluded from certain areas, including the kitchen/food prep area
  • Cleaning procedures- Food service staff will be responsible for daily kitchen/prep area

Hybrid Learning

 

  • Breakfast and lunch will be made available to all students.  Meals will be delivered to student classrooms where students will be able to remove their masks and eat socially distant from one another.


Appleby -

 

  • To protect students with food allergies, the school nurse will distribute an allergy list to classroom teachers at the beginning of the year. Students with food allergies will have special accommodations to avoid food contamination and/or being in the physical location as the food in which they are allergic to.
  • Breakfast and lunch will be consumed in classrooms - delivery by designated staff.  Students will wash hands prior to eating meals.  Masks will be removed while eating.  Desks will be washed and disinfected after meals. 
  • Sharing of meals will be prohibited and the share table will be removed.  Salad bars and other self-service refrigerators and buffets for food and condiments will be suspended.


Junior/Senior High School -

 

  • Breakfast in first period classroom - picked up by students from kiosks around the building.
  • Lunch- students will wash hands prior to entering the cafeteria.  Students will eat lunch in the cafeteria if space permits.  Students will maintain 6’ social distance while eating.  Masks are to be worn in and out of the cafeteria.  Masks will be removed while eating.  Class groups will eat lunch at desks that are socially distanced.  Desks to be washed and disinfected between each group of students.
  • Sharing of meals will be prohibited and the share table will be removed.  Self-service refrigerators and buffets for food and condiments will be suspended.
  • Lunch periods may be shortened to allow for cleaning of the cafeteria. Lunch desks will be cleaned by staff between student groups to avoid transmission of COVID-19.
  • The school nurse will distribute an allergy list to the cafeteria staff at the beginning of the year. Students with food allergies will have special accommodations to avoid food contamination and/or being in the physical location as the food in which they are allergic to.
  • Hours of operation - window of lunch and breakfast times altered based on scheduling demands and social distancing allowances.
  • Streamlined entrances and exits in the cafeteria so they are one-way.
  • Movement within the cafeteria will be altered, including changing shape of serving line and addition markings on floor for social distance.
  • 7-12 takes food in a to-go bag at the end of day for remote learning.
  • Scheduling of cafeteria personnel will be dictated by scheduling meal prep for in-person as well as delivery, including Friday.
  • Shut down vending machines for students.

 

Full In-Person with Heightened Health and Safety Protocols

 

  • Breakfast and lunch will be made available to all students, Monday-Friday.   
  • Lunch- meals will be consumed in the cafeteria and within classrooms.  Students will wash hands prior to entering the cafeteria/classroom.  Students will maintain 6’ social distance while eating.  Masks are to be worn in and out of the cafeteria.  Masks will be removed while eating.  Class groups will eat lunch at desks that are socially distanced.  Desks to be washed and disinfected between each group of students.
  • Sharing of meals will be prohibited and the share table will be removed.  Self-service refrigerators and buffets for food and condiments will be suspended.
  • Scheduling of lunch periods will allow additional passing time to accommodate cleaning of cafeteria space.
  • Movement within the cafeteria - non-cafeteria staff excluded from certain areas, including the kitchen/food prep area.
  • The school nurse will distribute an allergy list to the cafeteria staff/teachers depending on the building at the beginning of the year. Students with food allergies will have special accommodations to avoid food contamination and/or being in the physical location as the food in which they are allergic to.

 

Addendum to Child Nutrition

 

Each school and/or district reopening plan must provide all students enrolled in the SFA with access to school meals. This must include students in attendance at school and students learning remotely.

 

For students learning that will be attending school as part of the hybrid model:

 

  • Students attending school in person on Monday and Tuesday will be given one breakfast and one lunch at the end of the day.
  • Students attending school in person on Wednesday and Thursday will be given two breakfast and two lunch at the end of the day.
  • Students will be responsible for transporting the meals home.
  • All meals are available for no charge.

 

For students in attendance:

 

  • Breakfast served each day
  • Limited Choices (as per menu).
  • All meals are available for no charge.
  • Lunch served each day
  • Limited Choices (as per menu)
  • All meals are available for no charge.

 

For students learning remotely:

  • We will provide five days of meals each Friday for enrolled students only.

  • Grab and go breakfast and lunch will be available from 11 A.M. to 1 P.M. on Friday only at the following location:
  • Main entrance – Marathon Jr/Sr High School
  • Parents of students learning remotely will need to communicate needs for take home meals via penrosep@marathonschools.org or 607-849-3252.
  • All meals are available for no charge.
