October 2023
We have had an amazing start to the school year. Outstanding instruction is taking place in classrooms throughout the district. One academic area that is growing rapidly is our music program with the expansion of the elementary band and elementary and secondary chorus. We are also excelling in our extracurriculars with our athletic teams competing at a high level ready to make postseason runs, the high school drama club is putting on a fall production, and at the end of September we welcomed our students and community at the Ag Fair.
October is proving to be a very exciting month. A few events to highlight include the NHS Blood Drive, Open House, Fall Spirit Week and Pep Rally, Homecoming Dance, Jr. High Fun Night, and Athletics postseason play. These events impact students in a positive way and wouldn’t be possible without the collective support of our leadership team, instructional, operational, and office staff. These are people who I continue to be thankful for everyday.
On October 18th, we hosted a Job Recruitment Fair. While we have a fantastic operational staff, it is necessary to recruit additional support to assist them in continuing to thrive. In addition, we are recruiting substitutes district-wide. While there are shortages in many areas, transportation seems to be one area hit very hard regionally and statewide. Community assistance is appreciated in promoting the benefits of working in our district. Please encourage prospective candidates to apply online at any time through our district website, under the Employment link.
This past September we launched our new district website. This collaborative process resulted in a new and modern design, with the goal of simplifying how information can be located. Please visit www.marathonschools.org and let us know what you think. Your feedback is valuable to assist in continuing to make this application as user-friendly as possible.
Two additions to our team are our School Resource Officers, Mercedes Slade (Jr.-Sr. HS) and Mark Starner (Appleby). Officers Slade and Starner have made an immediate and positive impact on our school climate. Their ability to build relationships with students and staff is evident, and their presence and leadership in regards to assessment and improvement of our current safety practices are immeasurable.
